Day 2 in the locks

Ready to go






Tues. 10/25/11

Cloudy rainy calm and cool to start the day. Secured the vessel and at 10:20 am left Point Bay Marina. Wind picked up 15 to 20 knots out of the west, the skies cleared to partly cloudy some sun was welcome warmth. We motored about 40 nm just south of Benson, we originally planned on making Whitehall but with the late start and our speed being less due to an overloaded boat and hauling the inflatable we averaged about 5.7 nm/hour. Along the way we saw loons, several great blue herons and one very majestic bald eagle. When not relieving Stan from the helm, my day was spent organizing below decks, this will undoubtably this will take several days if not weeks. I also cooked up a great breakfast which I have not had time to do since the 4^th of July. It was a great 1^st day, went to bed early as we need to be moving at the crack of dawn to get a start on the lock system beginning with lock 12 in Whitehall.

Whoopi is content although with the mast down on the deck it is hard for her to move about easily, in a few days all that will go away when the mast is put up in Castleton, NY.

Wed. 10/26/11

Another cool calm rainy day, Stan had us get under way as soon as it was light enough around 7:15. We made it to Whitehall in a couple of hours and went through lock 12. Tied up to the wall to take Whoopi for a walk, visited briefly with Doug Lang on “Kite” and neighbor from our mooring area in Shelburne, he is headed to St. John in the US Virgin Islands. We motored all the way to lock 5 and tied up at a free dock at a park with hiking trails, Whoopi and I went for a long walk, They had an interesting sculpture of a mosquito.

Thur. 10/27/11

Very cold morning, was expecting to see snow flakes. Got Stan to slow down a little and not rush off at the crack of dawn. Went for a nice walk in the park again and headed to lock 5 then to Schuyler Yacht Basin for fuel, ice and water. And thanks to their wifi I am able to post this blog update. From here we plan to make through the rest of the locks except the Federal Lock in Troy where we will hold up for a day or 2 to do some work on the mast in preparation to meet Ken and Francie in Castleton, NY to put the mast up. So that is all for know.
